How was what he did different from what his dad did over and over again?
Cheating on a math test had to do with studies and maybe money, and movie tickets have to do with money. Cheating on a math test is different from movies, because if you cheat on money, you get caught by a police, while cheating on a test, you get caught by students or a teacher. When you are an adult, you have many hardships with life, and when you are a child, you have hardships with school, and life is a much bigger thing than school.
And should he continue to stay silent the next time his dad lied?
Brendan should stay silent sometimes, and sometimes he shouldn’t stay silent when his dad lied. Sometimes, you have to lie for some reasons - important reasons, but when the reason is NOT important, maybe he should tell the truth.
* What is Brendan’s dilemma?
Brendan has a dilemma - cheating. Some people cheat, to get what they want, and cheating is bad.
* Have you ever seen an adult or friend do something you felt wasn’t right? What did you do? How did it make you feel?
I’ve seen someone that says bad words to me and lies to me. If I were really, really, mad at that person, I would say bad words, and maybe lie a little. It made me feel a little or a lot angry at that person, but I know that lying and saying bad words is kind of wrong.
* Do you think Brendan should try to talk to his dad again about his lying at the movies?
Yes, I think Brendan should try to talk to his dad again about lying at the movies, because you shouldn’t lie. Of course people have to lie sometimes, but lying is bad. God is always watching you!!
* Who might Brendan have hurt by cheating on his quiz?
Brendan might have hurt his parents for doing the wrong thing, and he might have hurt his teacher because she might have been disappointed in him.
* Brendan’s Dad said it was okay to be dishonest if no one was hurt. Who do you think might have been hurt by his lying at the movie ticket office?
Brendan’s Dad could have hurt the movie theater’s manager, because he was cheating him on money and not giving him the correct amount of money he has to pay.
* Have you ever felt like doing (or have you actually done) the “wrong thing” because you felt like it was worth it? Do you still feel that it was worth it?
I don’t really, really think that what I’ve done wrong was worth it. Maybe I feel some things I did wrong were worth it, but I don’t really feel that what I’ve done wrong was worth it. (A little).
